Congratulations to yet another Bedford indie retailer celebrating their anniversary this month: epanoui. We asked owner Hannah Paine to describe the whirlwind of a year that she’s had: “I’m delighted to be celebrating such a successful first year since the opening of the épanoui shop and studio on Mill Street, Bedford. Épanoui literally means to blossom, grow and to flourish, and the last year has seen us do just that.
Running a business today is tough, especially for a small independent shop – épanoui is a business I created and built entirely myself so it is something I’m extremely proud of. It has been a lot of hard work, but I’m so passionate about what I do I’ve honestly enjoyed every second of it.
From the épanoui shop and studio I’m able to design and create my own fine jewellery collection which has gone from strength to strength, selling both from the shop and from our website. We have even grown quite a celebrity following! In addition to our jewellery we also source a wide range of home wares, beauty products and other artisan gifts. It’s amazing that I’m now able to support other local and UK artists by stocking their goods.
It is wonderful to have seen a rise in independent shops and restaurants in Bedford recently, and it’s really great to see such a positive community spirit and show of support between all the local businesses. There’s a real sense of camaraderie on our corner of Mill Street that has really helped make the last year such an enjoyable journey.
I’d like to thank everyone who has paid us a visit this year and I look forward to celebrating even greater success in the years to come”.
