Brothers-in-law Steve Curd and Rob Acheson have recently transformed a neglected unit on Roff Avenue into a thriving barber shop. Originally from London, Steve has been barbering in Northamptonshire for the last 10 years.
While Rob has lived in Bedford for 15 years, Steve has recently located here and inspired the duo to open a shop. The Barber Cave opened this summer in Black Tom and business has been brisk ever since. “We’re really pleased, it’s even better than we expected,” said Steve. “The residents have been so supportive and there’s a real community spirit in the area. During the really heavy rain this summer we received a call from a neighbour at 10pm to let us know that the shop was flooding. How nice is that?!”
The upcycled aesthetic of the shop may be up-to-the-minute modern, but the ethos is based on that of an old-fashioned barbers. “We want to make a visit to the Barber Cave an experience,” said Rob. “Great haircuts, male grooming (including a sunbed) and cold beers for our customers.”
