In early March, a mental health support group launched in Bedford, joining over 20 other towns and cities throughout the UK to provide peer support in a casual and informal environment.
So successful was the inaugural meeting and walk, that Mental Health Mates, led by volunteer Lesley Quinn, will meet on the first Saturday of every month outside the Pavilion in the Park at 11am. Everyone is welcome. Mental Health Mates is a national initiative that was started by Daily Telegraph journalist, Bryony Gordon to provide the ‘we’ to those struggling alone with mental health issues. Taking place in over 20 towns and cities, Mental Health Mates is a regular, peer-led meet up, where members can walk and talk without fear of judgement.
“It was great to see so many people joining us for the first walk,” said Lesley. “As the word spreads, we’re looking forward to even more people coming along to support each other.”
