Clanger recommends: Johnny Parry: An Anthology Of All Things

Sunday 5th February at Bedford Corn Exchange. Performance begins at 7pm.

Bedford-based composer, Johnny Parry, has been commissioned by Bremen University Orchestra and Choir to perform his composition, An Anthology of All Things in a cross continent musical exchange which is coming to the Corn Exchange for an unmissable performance this month.

The piece – originally created in 2012 for and with Bedford Creative Arts and Johnny’s local community – inspired Bremen University who commissioned him to develop it for their student choir and full orchestra.

Bedford Community Arts Choir performed the piece at the Glocke Concert Hall at Bremen University at the end of January. In the spirit of cultural exchange, a 100 piece choir will come to Bedford and Oxford to perform the piece in an even larger-scale incarnation together with the Bedford Community Arts Choir. The Bremen University Orchestra and Choir traditionally play their classical repertoire of Brahms or Beethoven; however, they will instead perform an up scaled version An Anthology of All Things rewritten by Parry for the occasion.

Bremen University’s Susanne Gläß said, ‘What I really like about the piece is the very big emotions it deals with like love or loss. The music does not overshadow the text but instead supports it to transcend it. I personally enjoy the tinge of the humour threaded throughout the piece; it always brings a smile to my face!’

Tickets available on the door.
