The sun shone, the crowds came in their hundreds of thousands and Bedford’s River Great Ouse had never looked so inviting!
The 40th anniversary of the Bedford River Festival on Saturday 14 and Sunday 15 July 2018 was a weekend to remember and as ever, there was something for everyone.
The river bustled with boats of all shapes and sizes and from the embankment to Russell Park and St Mary’s Gardens were fairground rides and live music, water sports and demonstrations, hands-on activities and local produce. Festival face glitter was in evidence and the party vibes rippled throughout the town.
Early evidence suggests that over 300,000 people came to Bedford to get into the festival spirit with us.

Finally, a massive thank you to the River Festival organisers at Bedford Borough Council and all the sponsors, participants and volunteers. We know how hard you work to make this huge event such a success and the effort it takes to get Russell Park looking its best just a few hours after the revellers have gone is very much appreciated (photo credit: David Litchfield).
