Food and Drink highlights this August

Foresters Summer menu

The new summer menu at the Foresters Arms launched in mid-July, and includes a new ‘small bites’ selection.

The ‘small bites’ menu includes tacos, sweet nachos with cinnamon (‘a real taste sensation’ according to landlord, Ben Howe) and their new star of the show, never been done in Bedford before – Poutine! It’s a Canadian favourite, which in layman’s terms is basically chips, cheese and gravy, but using cheese curds and a special gravy.

New waffle options have been added to the brunch menu including a savoury fried chicken option, plus banana and fresh berries. There are also three new salads, with some optional extras to pile on the flavour.

The Foresters’ garden is home to visiting street food vans every Saturday throughout August. Check out their Facebook page and website to get up to date info on who they’ve got lined.

Eat Feast

Eat Feast is back in Bedford twice this month. Woo hoo!

They’ll be at their regular spot at Riverside Square on Friday 30 August (4 – 9pm) and then the following day (Saturday 31 August) at the Bedford Running Festival at Priory Marina.

As ever, they’ll be bringing some of the area’s best street food traders together – definitely an incentive to complete the Bedford Half Marathon/10k/5k or Mini Miles so you can stuff your face afterwards!

FatCap Smokehouse

Now fully open, the FatCap Smokehouse on Castle Lane is the newest independent restaurant in Bedford. The former-Spaghetti John’s building has been completely transformed, with elegant and contemporary furniture, terrace seating, a fully-stocked bar and a mouth-watering menu.

Offering a range of low and slow cooked meat, plus vegetarian options, the FatCap is a great addition to Bedford’s foodie scene.  As perfect for a big get-together with friends or family as it is for date night, the interior is modern and welcoming, with intimate tables for two plus space for larger groups.

The menu is definitely aimed at the meat-eaters among us, with some great veggie options (including mac n cheese and smoked halloumi burger) too.  There’s also a two course kids’ menu for £6.95 which includes a side and drink. Go and check it out!
