The twice yearly Made in Bedford Artisan Fairs are the county’s largest arts, crafts and produce fairs. There will be over 70 vendors representing the best of Bedford’s artists, designers, makers and craftspeople. Visitors can take part in craft workshops in the Harpur Suite bar and there will be food from the incredible Dog House Kitchen, Number 13 and locally roasted coffee by Wooden Hill.
“By buying the work of a local artist, designer or maker, you are improving the prosperity of your local community,” said organiser Rachel Atkinson. “It is important to give local creative businesses a platform for their work at a popular and accessible event such as the Artisan Fair.
“Most of them have online shops but are unable to afford premises on the high street. Buying local is better for the environment as small creative businesses are using traditional production skills or using local materials and suppliers, avoiding the environmental costs of mass-manufacturing and transport.”
