Whilst we all take heed to social distancing measures we can’t help but imagine our first day without ‘lockdown’.
We’d love to hear your views on what you are missing most in the Borough? Please complete this very quick survey so when we come out the other side, we can all celebrate these wonderful places.
Today it’s Sarah Elam, Chair of Governors at Brickhill Primary School and External Relations Manager for The Harpur Trust.
For over 450 years, The Harpur Trust has been inspiring and supporting people in Bedford to improve their lives by:
- providing and promoting education
- offering help and relief to anyone who is sick, in need, hardship or distress
- providing recreational facilities with a social welfare purpose
Over the past 10 years, The Trust has given £11 million in grants to local projects. This money has helped organisations and individuals make a difference to their own lives or those of others in the borough. To find out how they are supporting Bedford through the Coronavirus pandemic, click here.
Which restaurant will you go to first?
The Plough. It’s my favourite destination for a special treat or occasion and whilst not normally a pudding person I am completely addicted to their soufflés.
Where will you buy your first pint?
It will probably be a G&T rather than a pint, but most definitely at my local, The Foresters Arms
Where will you buy your first coffee?
The Gallery café, giving me the perfect excuse to pick up some birthday cards from the Art Centre and a Sourdough loaf from Companions Real Bread.
Which shop will you head to first and what will you buy?
I’ll most definitely be heading to my hairdressers for a colour, cut and blow dry!
Where will you go on your first out of town trip?
Hard one, as I crave the seaside and love the north Norfolk coast, but I think it is more likely to be a day on London’s Southbank to meet up with school friends. We meet there a few times a year, spend hours chatting and reminiscing whilst moving between cafés, restaurants and bars with a bit of culture and shopping thrown in.
Where will your first walk be?
I walk a lot locally and one of the things I like best about Bedford is its proximity to some stunning countryside. Just before lockdown I went on a dog walk in Woburn Sands woods and along the footpaths which go through the surrounding fields and gentle hills. It was a beautiful day and we saw so much wildlife. It’s a walk I’d really like to do again.
What’s the main thing you have missed? e.g live music, pubs, eating out, cinema, exercise etc
All of them especially and I will definitely be booking in some meals out and cinema trips with family and friends. But I am really looking forward to returning to the gym. I joined in January and was really enjoying getting fit (for the first time in a very long time!)
First sporting or outdoor activity (to watch or participate in)?
I have been walking most days and have had a few trips out on my road bike, but I would love a swim, preferably in an outdoor pool on a sunny day!
