About:
Bedford HOPE Events host a screening of The LION at The Quarry Theatre
About The HOPE Foundation:-

The HOPE Foundation was set up in 1999 by cork native Maureen  Forrest.  Her aim was to raise funds for one girl’s home, and today, thanks to our amazing donors the Hope Foundation provides support to more than 60 projects in healthcare, education, child protection, vocational training and capacity building of vulnerable individuals and communities in Kolkata, India.
HOPE works primarily with the street and slum children of Kolkata, and over 2.7 million people have benefitted both directly and indirectly, from HOPE’s interventions since 1999.  With offices in Cork, Dublin, UK and India, HOPE also works with local Indian NGO’s to rescue tens of thousands of children from the streets and slums of Kolkata.
Bedford HOPE Events team:-
We are a group of Bedford women, from different backgrounds and nationalities, who are passionately committed to this cause and have come together to raise money for the HOPE Foundation.  Founded by published author, Jacqueline Merne, The Bedford Events group’s common purpose is to raise awareness of, and vital funding for, street and slum childrens programmes in Kolkata, India.  Our first function, a lunch over Whitsun bank holiday weekend, raised £2k for the HOPE Foundation.
For our next event we are delighted to be screening the film The LION at The Quarry Theatre, St Peters Street, Bedford on 15th September – doors opening at 6.30 pm.  This very powerful biographical drama tells the story of how in 1986 a vulnerable little 5 year old boy growing up in rural India would join his older brother as they scrounged for coins and food on trains to help their impoverished mother and siblings survive.  This film really highlights how children can fall victim to the terrifying reality of survival on the streets of Kolkata.  At one point Saroo is forced to flee from a gang who abduct street children “there’s no salvation at all”, he says, “the only thing you could do is just try and survive a day at a time.”   Please support us to help children that are still forgotten.
Tickets for the LION screening are £10.00 and can be booked via the Quarry Theatre Box Office on 01234 362269 or online at http://www.quarrytheatre.org.uk/shows/lion. Due to the generosity of The Quarry all proceeds will go directly to HOPE.
