Bedford Event

Jerusalem by Jez Butterworth
Starts: 10 Mar 2018 at 7:30 PM
Ends: 15 Mar 2018 at 10:15 PM

Set on the outskirts of a small Wiltshire town, in Rooster’s Wood, Johnny ‘Rooster’ Byron maintains his tenuous grasp on his caravan and the patch of land it sits on. The council, the police and most of the local community want rid of him and some of them mean him harm. The only ones sticking by him are a motley band of misfits, most of whom only hang around Rooster for the drugs he deals. On the morning of the local fair, the powers that be move ever closer to pushing Byron out of his eponymous wood. At the same time, a young girl goes missing and fingers are pointing at Byron.

First produced in 2009 at the Royal Court Theatre, the play starred Mark Rylance as Johnny ‘Rooster’ Byron. It is magical, earthly, vicious, hilarious and often painfully real. Jez Butterworth’s England is the country we recognise, scruffed up against that dreamy, idealised place of popular imagination.

Director Lizzie Thomas is delighted to be directing some of Bedford’s finest performers in this big, loud and memorable production. Starring Ronnie Toms as Johnny ‘Rooster’ Byron; a theatrical tour-de-force not to be missed.

Note that this show is not suitable for children under 14.

Tickets for this show are priced at £10.00, with concession prices of £8.50.

Preview tickets at £6.00 available for the Tuesday evening performance only.
