Midsummer Vineyard Tour and Tasting

Midsummer Vineyard Tour and Tasting at Warden Abbey Vineyard
Midsummer Vineyard Tour and Tasting
Starts: 26 Jun 2018 at 10:30 AM
Ends: at 12:30 PM

Discover the secrets of Bedfordshire’s medieval vineyard, English wine-making, and how volunteers look after the vines all year round at this exciting community project.

The Friends of Warden Abbey Vineyard are holding tours on Saturday 23rd June and Tuesday 26th June. Tours are at 10.30am and 2.00pm and last about 1.5-2 hours. Limited space so strictly advance bookings only please. £10 for non-members; £6 for members.

Nestled between the picturesque villages of Old Warden and Cardington, vines were first planted on this beautiful Bedfordshire field in medieval times by monks at Warden Abbey. Replanted in 1986, the vineyard has produced award-winning wines every year since its first vintage. Bedfordshire Rural Communities Charity now lease the vineyard in an ambitious project to provide a unique community and educational resource – and have continued its medal-winning tradition. The tour concludes with a tasting of two of the latest wines.

If the weather’s nice, you’re welcome to bring a picnic lunch to enjoy among the vines.

Can’t make this date? The Friends of Warden Abbey Vineyard run twice-monthly tours and tastings between May and September.

Please note there is no winery on the site. The vineyard is on a gentle slope and ground is uneven. The walk may not be suitable for people with limited mobility. Please bring suitable footwear/outdoor clothing for the weather. Our wine is for sale on the day (cash/cheques only).
