Sue Ryder St John’s Hospice is asking people right across Bedfordshire and Cambridgeshire to become shining stars for the night, and raise much needed funds for its expert and compassionate palliative care.
The hospice’s annual night time walk with a party atmosphere, Starlight Hike supported for the second year running by M&DH Insurance Services Ltd and The Paviour Doctor, is back on Friday 20th September.
The event will be returning to the magical surroundings of the Shuttleworth Estate, with the route taking in the stunning Swiss Gardens and Summer House, where participants can place a star in memory of loved ones.
Online registration is open now at www.sueryder.org/stjohnsstarlighthike with a 5km or 10km route option.
Last year 400 walkers sporting neon outfits and flashing lights walked under the stars in Bedfordshire, raising over a staggering £40,000 for the hospice and its inpatient care, day therapy, family support team and palliative care hub offering 24 hour palliative care support to local families.
Aimee Jepson, Fundraiser at Sue Ryder St John’s Hospice, said, “We’re aiming for the stars this year to top our fundraising figure from last year if we can. To do that we need people right across the county to join us. Get together with family, grab your friends or enter a team with your work colleagues or sports team and join us for a great night out.”
Richard Hames is Managing Director at M&DH Insurance Services who are long-time supporters of the hospice and the event, along with Darryl Brooks from The Paviour Doctor. He said: “We’re thrilled to be continuing our support of Sue Ryder St John’s Hospice and its annual Starlight Hike so all funds raised on the night can go directly to the expert and compassionate care hospice staff give. Sue Ryder St John’s is a really important local cause to us as so many staff and customers have experienced the hospice’s care.”
Starting and finishing at the Shuttleworth Estate, Old Warden, there will be entertainment and uplifting music, warm up and refreshments available before setting out on the safe marshalled 5km and 10km walks.
Aimee added, “Starlight Hike is a really moving and uplifting event. Be part of something special, break out your glow sticks, don your deely boppers and help our Sue Ryder Nurses, doctors, care and support teams to be there for local families when it matters. The event is open to all and we would love to see the local community come together to support their local hospice.”
Adult individual tickets cost £15, child tickets £5 (under 16’s) and family and team ticket options are available.
